1997 abc cartoon with dogs and cats?

I remember it being on saturday mornings on abc in australia at around 8 or 9 and it had a dog who drives a taxi with his son and the cats were gangsters and had thompson machine guns it ran for 30 minutes and was set in the 1940s to 60s thats all i can remember.
