Criminals after me....?

Basically my ex is with a bit of a gangster and she is making up stories bout me to him saying I am threatening her which i'm not I havent been contact in six months. The other day he attacked me broke two of my cheek bones, tore the tendons in my shoulder and left me in hospital for three days. I reported it to the police and they are looking for him. I am terrified i am goin to be shot or stabbed. The police wont give me any protection and to top it all off I am going to prison next month because I tried to stab myself to death after all this and they charged me with possessing a dangerous weapon. What will i do?
