I live in the ghetto and I'm gay?

My family recently moved to the ghetto and it's the WORST part to live in my city. That being said, being gay doesn't help either. I feel intimidated by the "wannabe gangsters" around the community and at school. What should I do? I don't wanna get shot or anything or join their stupid gangs! I'm only 17 and I don't think I'm ready to move out.
